No. 1 Ohio State at No. 4 Texas gets Week 2's main stage

No. 1 Ohio State visits No. 4 Texas on Saturday in Austin, putting the top two teams in the current AP poll's top four in the sport's first true heavyweight bout of 2026.

The lede

This one has the whole menu: Arch Manning and Julian Sayin meet again after their staffs kept the reins tight in last year's game, and neither program has room for a September nap. The Athletic calls it a meeting of top-five title contenders. The AP poll, via CollegeFootballData, says the same thing with numbers: Ohio State is No. 1, Texas is No. 4.

Saturday will settle nothing about the Playoff, but it will give every other contender a measuring stick. Get the good snacks for this one.

• Saturday: No. 11 Oklahoma at No. 24 Michigan. Michigan, coming off a near-upset against Western Michigan, welcomes an Oklahoma team with Playoff ambitions to the Big House.
• Saturday: No. 12 Alabama at Kentucky. Alabama opens SEC play against a Kentucky team that won its first game under Will Stein, and the Wildcats get the Tide in Lexington.
• Saturday: No. 13 Texas Tech at Oregon State. Texas Tech quarterback Will Hammond gets his first road test as the starter against an Oregon State passing attack CBS calls dangerous.
• Saturday: Memphis at Boise State. Boise State is 0-1, Memphis is 2-0, and both are hovering at the edge of the AP poll. That's a big nonconference night on the blue turf.

• Replay gets a reset. The NCAA changed its replay timing protocol after Michigan's controversial finish; CBS reports the new standard would have given Western Michigan the upset. The Big Ten is also expanding live replay look-ins to most home games.
